When to wear glasses instead of contact lenses?

For those of us that don't have perfect vision, the age-old question is "should I get contact lenses or glasses?" While both have their pros and cons, it really is dependent on your personal preferences and lifestyle. Check out the video above to see when glasses might be preferable over contact lenses, or read about some differences here!

Glasses are often much easier to use, and young children as well as very old adults can use them to see properly without worrying about all the steps of sanitation and replacement. Speaking of replacement, glasses need to be replaced less frequently than contacts, so are often cheaper in the long run. As long as you don't break or lose them, one pair of glasses can be kept and used every day for years!

This is great if you love the way your glasses look. Contact lenses are relatively unnoticeable, unless you decide to buy coloured contacts, but glasses can be a great and fashionable accessory to wear. The fact that they are worn on your face and not directly in your eye also means that they are less irritating than contact lenses. So, if you are prone to dry or itchy eyes, perhaps you'd prefer glasses.

This isn't to say that glasses are perfect, however. If you lead a very active lifestyle, glasses can be difficult to wear as they are dangerous in contact sports, bounce around when you run, and can be hit off and lost. Especially if you're playing a sport, many referees will not allow you to play wearing glasses.

Another negative aspect to glasses is that they can cause peripheral distortion. When you look outside the view of your lenses, everything is blurry again! This can cause headaches and even a worse prescription in the future. Glasses may also be uncomfortable if they're too tight or pinching you. Lastly, some people don't like to wear glasses simply because they don't like the way they look. The lenses can be reflective in photos, they are often seen as less formal for girls, and it can be hard to find the right pair.

Overall, the choice between glasses and contact lenses is a personal one. Both have pros and cons, so think about the decision and carefully choose which type you prefer! And, you can buy either through SmartBuyGlasses, so be sure to check them out!
